‘Finding urban graphic heritage’ Invited talk to members of the Sign Design Society, 25 March 2021

Dr Robert Harland was invited to present early insights from the two-year Newton Fund Repositioning Graphic Heritage project . The talk explored the relationship between graphic heritage and heritage interpretation, presentation and representation, through case studies of ‘signs’ in their urban settings. The talk covered the transition from professional design practice, depicting how a graphic design perspective may be used to address cultural heritage concerns, the similarities between the products of graphic design and heritage interpretation, whilst also featuring case studies taken from the Repositioning Graphic Heritage project, and others of an industrial heritage nature.
