How do graphic objects facilitate the function of cities and urban places? This question provides the impetus for interdisciplinary research undertaken by the Graphic Design Research Unit at Loughborough University. Our work explores the relationship between written discourse, pictorial images, other nonverbal communication, architecture and the built environment. Through the lens of graphic design as urban design we are interested in how graphic objects function as urban objects.
